18.01.10 First foals arrive for Papal Bull
Just two weeks into the new year saw the arrival of the the first foals by multiple Group 2 winner Papal Bull. These include a colt ex Catspraddle, a two time winner by High Yield, from the family of Holy Roman Emperor, Flying Spur and Encosta de Lago. Another fine colt was produced by Fernlawn Hope, a winning Danehill Dancer half sister to Gr.3 winner Sir Diamond from the family of Insatiable, Galeota and Seazun. These were followed by a filly ex Humble Fifteen, a black type placed winner on the flat from the family of Balanchine, Stage Call, Romanov and Saoirse Abu. Humble Fifteen’s last three yearlings sold for an average of €210,000.
David Stack of Coolagown Stud reports that the foals are 'very strong and correct with good bone'.
Papal Bull is the winner of over €600,000 including the Princess of Wales's Stakes (Gr.2), King Edward VII Stakes (Gr.2), 2nd in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Gr.1) pictured below, in the 3rd fastest time ever. He covered 155 mares in his first season at stud and if these foals are an indication of what is to come, his future at stud looks very promising. |
